frequently asked questions

Why do I need a responsible person to accompany me?2025-08-29T16:43:24+00:00

Our normal practice is to utilize sedation medications to promote relaxation during your surgery. It’s recommended to refrain from driving a car for 24 hours after receiving these medications due to increased fall risk, amnesia, and (in rare cases) respiratory depression. Therefore, for the safety of yourself and others on the road, it’s important to have someone drive you home and care for you after surgery.

Who do I call if I have a billing concern?2025-08-29T16:39:24+00:00

Any billing questions or concerns are handled by Rockingham Eye Physicians. You may reach their billing department at 540-433-2485 and choose extension 112.

When can I return to my normal activities?2025-08-29T16:33:29+00:00
Your recovery timeline will be personalized based on your lifestyle and the details of your surgery. At your post-op visit the day after surgery, our staff will provide specific guidance. Most patients are able to return to work the following day.
When will I get a new prescription for glasses or contact lenses?2025-08-29T16:28:19+00:00

To allow your eye to heal from surgery, we allow a minimum of two weeks before addressing this topic. At your two-week post-op visit, your surgeon will help you determine the best way forward for getting a new prescription for glasses or contact lenses.

How will I see correctly once a corrective lens is placed in my eye, but my glasses have the old prescription?2025-08-29T16:24:49+00:00

This will be discussed at your post-op visit. Occasionally, the on-site optical shop will be able to remove the incorrect lens from your glasses while you’re waiting for the cataract on your other eye to be removed.

Will I need to wear an eye patch after surgery?2025-08-29T16:21:55+00:00

Eye patches are not typically required.

How do I choose which cataract replacement lens is right for me?2025-08-29T16:18:35+00:00

During cataract surgery, the natural lens is removed and replaced with an artificial lens. We’ll set aside time during your cataract consultation for you and your surgeon to discuss which lens is best for you. To get a better understanding of the lenses that will be considered, view your options at myalcon.com.
